![]() About Dr. Cheng Xia: Cheng Xia received a Bachelor's degree in medicine, with education in both Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), from the Hunan College of TCM in 1983. She completed a Master's degree in 1987 at Tianjing College of TCM and a Ph.D in 1990 at Chengdu College of TCM in medicine, with focused studies in acupuncture and chronomedicine (optimal timing of treatment with the body's natural rhythm). She has practised as an acupuncturist, herbalist and physician since 1984, and became an associate professor at the Beijing Hospital of TCM in 1994. She has instructed at the Beijing College of TCM and at the Beijing International Training Centre of Acupuncture, and has consulted at the International Training Centre of the Beijing College of Acupuncture and Orthopedics. Several published works bear her name in the field of stroke recovery, treatment of digestive disorder and chronomedicine, and she has spoken at several international conferences and meetings. Cheng Xia was a visiting professor in Canada at the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Victoria, B. C. from 1996 to 1998, and in Denmark at the Nordic Centre of Chinese Medicine at Copenhagen in 1999.
Sandra McKendry ![]() About Sandra McKendry: Sandra received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy from Queen's University in 1984 and has since worked as a physiotherapist in a variety of settings including acute care and rehabilitation hospitals, private practice, home care and long term care. Her interest in holistic and complementary medicine lead her to enroll in the University of Alberta's Certificate Program in Medical Acupuncture, taught by Dr. Steven Aung. Following her graduation from this program in 1995, Sandra spent three months pursuing further studies in acupuncture at the Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing, China. It was there that she first studied with Dr. Cheng Xia, a professor in the hospital's foreign student training program. Sandra's experience and views reflect a blend of perspectives gained through post-graduate studies in both Chinese medicine and physiotherapy. She became certified with the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute in 1996, and in 1999 became registered as an acupuncturist in Alberta. In addition, Sandra holds a Diploma of Advanced Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy through the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, and is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapy. She is currently working towards completion of a comprehensive course of study in traditional Chinese herbology, taught by Dr. Cheng Xia, and is in the process of becoming certified with the Institute for the Study and Treatment of Pain.

A specific combination of treatment techniques is used based upon our assessment of each client's condition and the treatment goals of the individual. Treatment may include acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, acupressure, diet therapy, lifestyle counselling and Qigong training (breathing exercises to nurture and optimize flow of body energy). Harmony of the body, mind and spirit is emphasized during treatment; the balance of spiritual and physical energies is key to our treatment and has proved itself beneficial in the treatment and recovery of a variety of conditions. About the logo of BodyMind Synergy Health Centre: In this logo, the background Taiji represents the universe, energy, movement, harmony and balance. The S shaped line between Yin and Yang reflects the dynamic synergy which drives and nourishes our life source. At BodyMind Synergy Health Centre, we believe that optimal body energy takes its root from the synergy of Yin and Yang, and shows itself in a balance and harmony of the body, mind and spirit.
